Has anyone ever been to Tin Cup, CO?
We loved having lunch at Frenchy’s Place. Oakley had the best time catching trout in the kids only pond.
In October 1859, prospector Jim Taylor panned some gold from Willow Creek, and carried it back to camp in a tin cup; he named the valley “Tin Cup Gulch.”
The town was a rough place in its early years. The town marshal died in a gunfight in 1882, and another marshal was killed by gunshot a year later. Once the area’s mining declined, so did the town. The Post Office closed and the last official election was in 1918.
You’ll see the grave marked Kate Fisher. She was the only black person in town, and had fed and sheltered the community in her rooming house, but the cemetery was segregated, so she had to be buried alone. Her grave has been preserved better than almost any other!
I can’t imagine how tough these people were. Only a handful of residents live here full time now! #colorado #trout #recipe #history #tincup

Feels so special to be in Colorado right now!
High in the alpine meadows, thousands of Monument Plants (also called green gentians) are blooming in a spectacular, widespread “super bloom.”
These incredible plants can spend 20 to 80 years growing quietly as low rosettes before suddenly shooting up stalks as tall as nine feet, covered in delicate, star-shaped flowers. This extraordinary bloom is believed to be the plants’ response to Colorado’s rainy monsoon summer of 2022. Once they bloom, they die.
We also spotted two black bear cubs after Pete alerted us on the very popular upper lower loop trail.
Pete is the BEST dog ever. He never barked and came back as soon as I beeped him. After he went after that bear last summer, I never go without his training collar.
Wow! So neat but also scary. We turned right around. I love bears so much, but only want to see them from a safe distance. Maybe because I was raised in SC & Myrtle Beach, but I’m not scared of sharks one bit. However, a bear is another story!
