I love my clunky, large bread machine. It is so worth finding space for it in my pantry. It makes delicious, homemade bread every time.
Here is a delicious recipe for 100% whole wheat bread with honey & olive oil. It’s soft with a crunchy crust and is to die for hot, right out of the bread machine. Leftover bread is great for sandwiches or toast, especially with my Poached Eggs & Milk Toast recipe.
I do like to measure my flour with my food scale because baking is such a science. I have an old Panasonic bread machine that you can find anymore, but I’ll buy this bread machine when I need a new one and you an find my food scale here.
You won’t be disappointed!

Ingredients
4 1/2 cups of 100% whole wheat flour or whole wheat pastry flour (576 grams)
1 1/2 cups warm water
1/3 cup olive oil
1/3 cup honey
1 tsp vital wheat gluten* (optional but you get a better rise & softer bread)
2 teaspoons salt
1 tablespoon of yeast
Directions
- Add the water to the bread machine.
- Add the oil and honey. Measure the oil first and then the honey (the honey slides right out this way).
- Add half of the flour, then the salt and vital wheat gluten, then the remaining flour.
- Make a smell well in the flour and put the yeast into that well or use your yeast dispenser if you have one.
- Set the bread machine for whole wheat bread (5 hours on mine) or quick whole wheat bread (3 hours on mine.)
