5 Minute Glazed (Canned) Carrots

This is a perfect side dish and a way to upgrade your canned carrots. Sure, you can slice and boil fresh carrots, but sometimes I need something quick and I don’t always have fresh carrots in the fridge. I always keep canned carrots in my pantry for a healthy side dish.

Each serving only has an added 1/2 teaspoon of sugar and butter so you’re getting the tasty stuff in moderation!

Health Benefits of Carrots

  • They’re rich in beta-carotene, a compound your body changes into vitamin A, and Lutein which helps keep your eyes healthy.
  • They’re rich in antioxidants which have been proven to fight off harmful free radicals in your body, and that can make you less likely to have cancer.
  • They help your heart. First, all those antioxidants are also good for your heart. Second, the potassium in carrots can help keep your blood pressure in check. And third, they have fiber, which can help you stay at a healthy weight and lower your chances of heart disease.
  • They boost your immune system with the Vitamin C content.
  • They are high in fiber which helps your digestion.

An easy way to upgrade your canned carrots.

Ingredients

  • 2 (14.5 oz) cans of sliced carrots

  • 2 packed tablespoons of brown sugar, honey or maple syrup

  • 2 tablespoons of butter

  • 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon optional*

  • Dash of salt and pepper

Directions

  • Drain carrots and set aside.
  • Melt the butter in a small skillet or pot or medium high heat.
  • Stir in the brown sugar or honey, butter, salt, pepper and cinnamon in using.
  • Stir in the carrots.
  • Let cook for about 3-5 minutes until the sauce has reduced to a glaze.
