Cowboy Cast Iron Skillet Steak

This technique for cooking a steak cooks the perfect steak every time! It’s so juicy, tender, easy and delicious. It’s so good it doesn’t need steak sauce and that is saying something coming from me, who unashamedly ask for A1 even at the fanciest restaurants.

You can use whatever steak you’d like but my favorite is a beef tenderloin filet! It’s lean and so tender and juicy!

Hot, Hot, Hot!

I learned this cooking technique from Chef Cash on my cooking show “Southern Fried Skinnyfied.” Make sure to get your cast iron skillet really, really hot before setting the steak in it. You’ll sear the steaks on one side for 2 minutes, flip and immediately place the skillet in a 500* oven and cook until your desired doneness.

We like our steaks medium rare so I cook it to 145*F then let it rest for 5 minutes on a cutting board before pouring the drippings back over the steak and slicing into it.

Tips!

  • I highly recommend buying a meat thermometer. I’m telling you it takes the stress out of cooking the perfect temperature steak. Going off time is unreliable because steaks can be different thicknesses! I recommend this thermometer, I leave the probe in the meat in the oven while it’s cooking.
  • Let the steak marinate in the fridge for at least 4 hours or overnight in Allegro original marinade!
