These pork chops are a delicious family friendly meal ready in 30 minutes.
The golden, caramelized onions taste so decadent. Serve with mashed, roasted or steamed potatoes and a vegetable like green beans for a complete meal.
The key to a juicy pork chop is not over cooking it. I recommend using a meat thermometer to help make sure it stays juicy!

French Onion Pork Chops

Ingredients
6 boneless pork chops (about 1 inch thick)
2 yellow onions, sliced thin
2 teaspoons dried thyme
1 tsp sugar
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 cup of beef stock
1 teaspoon of Worcestershire
6 slices Swiss or provolone cheese
Salt and Pepper
2 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon cooking oil
Directions
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat. I like to use a cast iron skillet.
- Heat butter in skillet. Once melted add the thinly sliced onions and dried thyme to the skillet.
- Let onions cook for 15 minutes, stirring often. After 15 minutes stir in the sugar, Worcestershire and the beef broth. Let onions continue to cook about 5 minutes longer then remove from the skillet with the sauce and set aside. Do not wipe out the skillet.
- Add about 1 tablespoon of cooking oil to the skillet. Season pork chops with salt, pepper and garlic pepper on both sides. When oil is hot, add pork chops to the skillet. Let cook 3-4 minutes per side. Pork will continue to cook in next step.
- Add onions and sauce back to skillet spooning them on top of the pork.
- Cover each pork chop with a slice of cheese, cover the skillet and cook until meat thermometer in pork reaches 145 degrees.
